I found this quote to be quite fascinating.

“Might I pose a question…Which is worse: Authors who send unintentional bad messages to their readers, particularly young impressionable ones—or—authors who send subtle but intentional good lessons? Now that’s an interesting thought…. Do authors have a responsibility to take care in what they write where innocent readers are concerned? Or is it simply about creativity?” ~ Author unknown.

OO, I love this. I think that some responsability exists, particularly for YA writers, but I think in the end, the book has to be honest within itself. I also tink that people have a responsability not to be swayed or coerced by things they read in a work of fiction.
