YA Indie Carnival ~ Lucky

Saturday, March 17, 2012

This week we're supposed to be posting lucky excerpts. I looked, and I just couldn't decide on an excerpt to share for this one. So instead I decided to tell you about what I've been reading. Three books at once, and I REALLY like all of them, but one of them did steal my attention from the other two.

First up is Entwined by Heather Dixon. The cover is the first thing that drew me to this book. I just can't seem to stop staring at it. I've found the story is also very well-done and very intrieging. This is the one I started first. I'm not done, but would recommend it.

Next is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. My girlfriends told me to hurry up and read it so we can go see the movie together. Otherwise, I'm not sure I would have picked it up just yet. The first person/present tense really threw me at first. I'm not a big fan of first person or present tense, but I got used to it, and now I can totally see why people love it. Anyway, I've only gotten partway in through the first chapter and I really need to finish before the movie comes out! If you want this on Kindle, it's on sale for $5.01 right now.

And lastly is ReVamped by Ada Adams. This is the one that stole my attention away from the first two, believe it or not! Gorgeous cover don't you think?! This one just draws me in as I take in all the detail. The story also drew me in.

I only have time to read right before bed and for some reason when I started this one, I found that I kept reaching for it when it was time to read even though all three are kept beside my bed. ReVamped is written by an indie author, and obviously it has vampires in it. I don't know why I love vampires so much, I just do and always have since movies like Love At First Bite. I never saw this movie in the theater, just an old re-run of it on TV. But it cracks me up, and it's when my love affair with vampires started.

Ada Adams has created something that brings me back to the lighthearted side of vampires like that movie, but in a completely different way. In this story there are vampire misfits, a vampire chewing bubble gum and popping the bubble with her fang, and special blood drinks available to vampires so they don't have to bite people. I'm not done yet, but I will be soon. THEN  I'll finished Entwined and The Hunger Games.

Description for ReVamped:
Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.
