See what readers are saying about Fateful:
by Andrea H:
"Oh man did I love this fabulous read. I am a huge twilight lover and all things gentle vampires. I am not really into the gory blood draining, shredding humans bit. I loved the setting, an American girl in London. Guys with British accents are just sexy, vampire or not:) I definitely pictured Ethan as a sexy Brit. I also enjoyed the tension between Ethan and Danielle. I loved the storyline in this book as well. It was unique and had many great elements to it, such as the introduction of fairies and their loving nature. There was a lot of twists and the story never dragged. This was such a spectacular young adult/ new adult read. Add this book to your must read list, folks. Then check out Fractured and Forever in the series. I give this story five glittery stars!"

by Kerrie J:
"If you enjoy watching the Twlight series or Vampire diaries you Will love this book. i can imagine that this book being made into a film one day. I will be down loading the next book to this one. Very good and compelling read."

by Danielle T:
"I really liked this book.  It's also a very sweet and a clean romance."

Kim B:
"I really enjoyed this book. I've read it twice and both times had to force myself to put it down to get stuff done. I really liked the romantic-ness of the book. It takes you back to a time when a man was a gentleman and a lady was to be treated like a lady. Though it is a book about vampires, I didn't feel like it was a Twilight copycat. Cheri has made the vampire her own!! You've got to read it!! The twist at the end was great and left me hungry for more!!"

...Note: This series is not suitable for anyone who doesn't like glittering fairies, vicious pixies, hot vampires with British accents, the dashing Mr. Darcy, or large amounts of snogging...

More than I deserve & feeling slightly blown away by it...

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Honestly, I don't really think I deserve as much praise as Emillia, one of my amazing readers, gives me with this. But I'm extremely humbled that my silly cookbook could touch someone's life in this way. Anyway, I was soooo moved, I just had to share it with you.

Emillia posted pictures of a fairy party she did for her daughters to help celebrate the life of her dear mother, who adored fairies. Emillia is a wonderful mother!!! Check this out!

"OK so I have to say I didn't handle my moms passing as well as I thought I would...I also do not want my girls to forget Grandma Kairlee...When my girls think of fairies they always think of my mom because my mom had loved fairies and such. she even glued a little fairy door in her room."

"I bundled up a party package with a letter from "Grandma Kairlee" and left it on our doorstep and doorbell ditched my house. I told them it was from Grandma Kairlee and read their notes to them. It really helped Itylee who was having a hard time with dealing with her death. So I thought it was time to throw another party. I had told my girls Grandma must of had help from the fairies to make all these magical fairy food. They were so happy just to think Grandma and Fairies had come to our house while they slept."
(I thought this was such a cute idea. ~Cheri)

"I was so lucky to have just bought the BEST cookbook in the world recently. It's called Sophia's Cookbook For Mortals by Cheri Schmidt. It's a cook book from a point of view of one of her character from her Fateful trilogy and has recipes from some of the stuff they ate in the books, and lucky for me there is a section of fairy food! It was perfect, and the recipes are amazing!!
I highly suggest all of her books and if your lucky you might be able to get them while they are on sale! I got Sophia's Cookbook For Mortal for only .99 cents. Best .99 cents I have ever spent!!"
(Now I'm blushing...~Cheri)

"This book is more than a cookbook to me. It's has really help in my healing process too. I know my mom would of totally loved all of Cheri Schmidt's books and I really wish I could of shared them with her, but for now when I read or make something like fairy food it really helps me remember my mom and how amazing she was and I know this is something she would do. So thank you Cheri you have really made a difference in my life with your books. Don't ever stop writing!"
(And now I'm crying...~Cheri~     If you'd like to read the entire post, go here.)

Dear Emillia took some great pictures. Below you'll see Raspberry-Kissed Lemon Fairy Cake, Fariy Cakes with a lemon curd filling, Fairy Fruit Dip, Inside-Out Cheescake Bites, and Magic Fairy Juice. All of these recipes are in Sophia's Cookbook for Mortals, but I think she added her own charming spin on them, and actually made them better than I do. (How sweet is this?)

One reason I was so very moved by this is that even though I haven't lost my mother yet, she also loves fairies, so obviously, I can really relate! My mother is probably the one who started my love for fairies in the first place. She had an old copy of this book:

I would spend hours upon hours of time just looking at all of the illustrations. So when I grew up and got married, I asked for it. My wonderful mom, said yes! The copy I have is an antique, and it's a bit tattered. Plus I fear I was the silly child who drew in it. : ( I don't remember doing it, so I suspect I was too young to know better.

And, you might like this if you love whimsical things, but The Giant Golden Book of Elves and Fairies is in print again!!! I bought a copy of this too, so now I have an old one and a new one. So cool! Well, at least I think so...but I'm weird and sappy like that...

Anyway, because of my "fairy-loving past" I saw Emillia's idea as extremely thoughtful and charming. What a wonderful way to keep fond memories of Grandma in their lives!

Young Adult Giveaway Hop

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Welcome to another giveaway hop hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and Reading Teen! And an announcement for my Kobo and Nook readers....

The Amazon Prime program expired on the Fateful Trilogy, and per your request, I have those books again available to my wonderful Kobo and Nook readers. However, since Kobo has been up, I've only sold one book. Just one copy of Fateful, and even while Sophia's Cookbook for Mortals was actually FREE for Kobo? : (

Please tell your friends who have Kobo or Nook ereaders about the availability of my books to them. I don't want them to miss out, especially since Sophia's Cookbook will soon be enrolled into Amazon Prime and will only be available to them for a limited time! (Find links to all of my books sold internationally at the bottom of this post.)

Anyway, back to the giveaway...Are you enjoying the London Olympics? I hope so! It makes me REALLY  want to visit again. I'm not much of a big city girl, but I absolutely loved London. It's no surprise my books are all based in England. I just can't seem to help myself. Maybe that's because my family roots from both my mother and my father come directly from England. Herefordshire, to be exact. So,  if you're like me, and can't be there for the Olympics, maybe I can bring a bit of London to you with my stories.

The Prize:
The Nook, or Kobo, or Kindle eBook copy of either Fateful or Sophia's Cookbook for Mortals. (You must have an account with either Barnes & Noble, Kobo, or Amazon to accept this prize. USA only UNLESS you have an account with those US sites, then you may enter. Kobo can go to Canadian or US readers.)

To Enter:
This giveaway is now closed, I will contact you if you won.
Curious about this series? Check out the most recent review of the trilogy by one of my UK readers:
"The Fateful series was what I can only describe as a beautifully sweet vampire tale narrated using the style of Jane Austen.

Set in the present day, Danielle isn't your usual main female character. She's not a tomboy trying to act tough, she's not an antisocial creature because she's peculiar in some unexpected way and she hasn't got a personality that sets her apart from the usual crowd. Danielle is a regular girly girl. She doesn't do blood, gore, violence, injuries or dead bodies (undead or otherwise). It almost felt like she had been literature-transplanted out of a Jane Auste novel and into modern day time with a couple of upgrades. With a penchant for wearing skirts and dresses, a fondness for pastel colours and a rather strong artistic streak for painting scenery; Danielle was a typical girl and not what most recent heroines are like. Her parents were so concerned with her fragility and female defenselessness that they insisted she have karate lessons, to the extent that when we meet her she is a lethal-when-necessary black belt. The good this will do her, in the paranormal world she is rudely awakened to, I'm not sure of.

The combination of strength and weakness in this character was complex and forever changing depending on the perceived angle, forcing me to stop and reflect several times. The fact that she was able to defend herself in our reality, but that when put into the context of a paranormal one she was weak and harmless made her all the more real to me.
Through all her trials, adventures, fortunes and misfortunes, unlike most characters who adapt quickly to the knew knowledge, Danielle remained faithful to her beliefs, ideals and female squirmishness.
From what would appear a very simple and easy to understand character, I would not have expected the depth and incredible number of facets that I found. Danielle's simplicity was endearing and eye opening, making me dwell and appreciate aspects of a paranormal romance and situations I had not previously considered.

Ofcourse this series would not be complete unless our Austen-like fan, found her corresponding Mr Darcy.

Ethan was a worthy Mr Darcy alter-ego for this paranormal romance. Forever a gentleman despite the course of centuries having passed him by, he held fast to his upbringing, ideals and traditions. The only modern thing about him were his clothes (which he had no choice in unless he wanted to arouse suspicion and generate medical mental health interest) and his love for his cars. I found his jealous and slightly possessive streak surprisingly sweet and funny, considering he had nothing to fear as Danielle had eyes for no other.
He was a Mr Darcy attempting to adapt to the current century whilst desperately trying to cling to his ways of life, and I loved every second I read of it. He was a night in regular clothing but who knew how to wield a sword, treat a girl like a lady and get any parents' blessing. What can I say, he was without a doubt too good to be true.
True to his century he was looking for someone special, a girl and not a tomboy; someone to whom he'd be willing to give the world and his life.

Unlike most romances, Ethan and Danielle didn't fight what they felt for each other. They knew it to be true and real, which is all that mattered to them. What they did have to fight was everyone else, to preserve what they had and their future.

Cheri Schmidt narrated their sweetly moving story, that revealed itself to be more than I expected. Confronting present day issues and morals, the more I read the more I enjoyed it.
I particularly appreciated Cheri Schmidt's ability to describe beautifully romantic scenes that made me feel at peace whilst sitting alongside the characters.

Everything about this series screamed Jane Austen, from the setting, the manner of speaking, down to the behavioural quirks. Being an admirer of Jane Austen's work, narrative style and storyline I very much enjoyed this series. Unlike most paranormal romances which are described as forever but feel more like an immediate lightning passion, The Fateful series spoke of a steady strong burn that would last forever where it counts the most: heart and mind.

The Fateful series was a sweet and tender paranormal romance that I would recommend to anyone in search for a tale of modern nights in shining armour with a hint of magic."

Still curious about this series? Maybe you could try Sophia's Cookbook for Mortals which contains excerpts and real recipes used by the characters of these novels.

The recipe for the fairy cake pictured here is included. They're filled with homemade lemon curd and are simply divine....

Leibster Blog Award

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

I got nominated for the Leibster Blog Award by Erin of Wrathsqueen’s Books! Thanks for thinking of me, Erin! I’m sending a cyber hug your way...oh, wait, you said hugs make you feel awkward. Never mind! ;D

Erin has her own YouTube channel, and I really enjoying watching her. She’s just super adorable, if you ask me! Check out her blog here:

So I was curious about the origin of this award, and after doing a couple of Google searches, I found this blog post by Sopphey Says:

She links to the original, or what she thinks is the original post, here:

I don’t speak German, but from what I understand, based on info from online translators, “leibster” means most favorite or dearest or loved in German. And my teen, who took German in high school, confirmed this by saying she thought it meant “most dearest.”

After translating the German blog, I was able to catch the basic idea behind the original posting of this award. I found that the purpose was to help draw more attention to rarely noticed bloggers. I thought it was a very thoughtful idea. Anyway, I think it’s very sweet that Erin nominated me and I’ll accept the challenge. Cheers!

Since people have changed the rules—who knows how many times— I’m going to do it too because I’m feeling rebellious at the moment. It seems the number of people you need to pass this award along to has increased from 3-5 to 11. LOL The questions weren’t in the original either.  I’ll still answer the questions and share some facts since I think that’s a fun idea, but I’ll send this to 10 instead of 11. And for those of you whom I nominate, and decide to do it, I’ll leave the “rules” part of it up to you too! ;)

Eleven facts about me and my books:
1. I love any book with romance in it. It can be historical, western, spies, paranormal, fantasy, whatever, as long as it has a good dose of sappiness and kissing, I’m good. I wish I could read more, but the only time I have time for it is right before I go to bed. If a book really grabs me, then I’m up until 1 or 2 AM reading.

2. I paint watercolor paintings of fairies and mermaids mostly. This is one that is mentioned in Fateful that hangs on my office wall:

3. I love reading The Saint books by Leslie Charteris. They don’t necessarily have enough romance in them for my tastes, but I’m very intrigue by the adventures of a modern day Robin Hood, Simon Templar. Charteris isn’t the only author I love...I love the way Lynn Kurland writes banter and magic. I love the way Kerrelyn Sparks makes me laugh. I love the way Lynsay Sands writes about vampires, the myth and how she tosses in bits of humor—I also love her historical novels. And I love how Catherine Anderson makes me cry.

4. Just like Danielle and Ethan, the young woman on the cover of Fateful was really raised in the Midwestern US and the young man was really raised in England.

5. I had no idea “Lucas” had a reputation for being the Prince of Darkness when I chose that name for my villain. Read about that in this post I did a while back. http://cherischmidt.blogspot.com/2011/04/funny-bit-of-trivia-about-fateful.html

6. I’m related to The Black Prince whom I resurrected for my story. I did change the character’s actual name from Edward to Richard for obvious reasons...

7. The similarities are not obvious, so you may not have noticed, but Fateful was inspired by The Frog Prince. My teen did a rewrite of the tale for a school assignment, and for some reason I couldn’t stop thinking about it and how I would change it too. I got to thinking: What if the hero wasn’t cursed with being a frog but rather cursed with being a vampire instead. And the heroine would have a part in curing him, but not with a kiss as happened in the original. (See the frog prince on the top of the fountain?)

8. I love miniature gardening. I've had a fairy garden before, but moved away from that house. I'm in the process of planting another one at my new house.

9. Places I love to shop for clothes are: Free People, Down East Basics, Target, Old Navy, Cordelia, Shabby Apple, and Shop Ruche.

10. I love to read good reviews from my readers, and I’m extremely grateful they take the time to post them. I absolutely LOVE it when a reader gets what I was trying to accomplish with my stories, like this...http://thelibrarymousebooktails.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/fateful-series-by-cheri-schmidt.html

11. Right now I’m working on:
An epilogue for Fair Maiden.
The Trapping Club, which is the sequel to Fair Maiden.
And Max and Nadia’s story, which is a continuation to the Fateful series. It will probably be entitled, The Oder of Curse-Bound Knights.
This is just a small list of what I’m working on. My head is a very crowded place at the momonet...and my summer is waaaay too busy to get much writing done!

The questions sent to me and my answers:
1.  Is there a book at the moment that you've heard about but unsure if you want to try it?
Not really. I usually know whether I'll try a book out or not based on the synopsis and what people are saying about it. Basically anything with romance in it will tempt me. But I'm not interested in reading erotica. I prefer some plot with my romance.

2. If you could only ever recommend one book to someone, what would it be and why?
Eeek! I don’t think I could ever recommend just one book! No way. Nope. So I guess I’d just recommend reading, and read what interests you.

3. Do you have any irrational fears?
They’re completely rational to me, so the answer is no? LOL

4. What is the most times you have re-read a book?
Three to four, I guess. I haven’t exactly been counting.

5. Favourite book to movie adaptation?
Totally Harry Potter.

6. What is a quote you find inspiring?
This is from a church song the children in my church occasionally sing on Sundays entitled “Hum Your Favorite Hymn.” Basically the point of the song is to hum a hymn if you’re thinking unkind thoughts. Good advice for children and adults alike, I think:
Before you say an angry word,
Remember you’ll regret it,
For once it’s said the harm is done,
And some folks won’t forget it.”

7. Are there any fictional characters that you've fallen for?
Simon Templar from The Saint by Leslie Charteris.

8. When you're browsing for books, what makes you pick one book over another?
First the cover, then the final decision is made based on the synopsis on the back. It needs to have a lot of romance in it. Sorry, I already said that, didn't I?

9. Which genre would you like to live in: dystopian, paranormal, historical or just contemporary.
I’m torn between historical or paranormal, so how about a mix of the two?

10. If you could talk to ANY author, current or from history, who would it be?
Lynn Kurland.

11. Favourite fairytale?
Cinderella. I still love watching all kinds of retellings of this classic story.

The blogs I’m nominating are: (Please don't feel pressure to participate if you don't have time, but if you do, I'll look forward to seeing your post!)
